Novel configurations of single‐axis and two‐axis planar monopulse comparators are presented, providing a very close amplitude and phase matching over a wide bandwidth with an application in broadband monopulse radar systems. Unlike the conventional monopulse comparators, the present unique design features have offered a very good return loss as well as amplitude and phase imbalance of ± 0.1 dB and ± 1.5° over a large bandwidth (>15%) in L band, for two‐axis monopulse comparators. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
