A novel technique using broad spectrum UV light source and amplitude mask to write LPGs is presented. Based on this technique, writing LPGs becomes simple, flexible, and multiple fiber gratings could be written at same time. It can be used by industry to manufacture LPGs in large volume with very low cost. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
