The performance of an actively mode‐locked fiber‐ring laser with large dispersion cavity is described. The laser output characteristics remain stable for long periods of time without external adjustment. The very stable, transform‐limited optical pulses at a repetition rate of 10 GHz were obtained successfully in this laser over wavelengths ranging from 1530 to 1556 nm. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
