Approximate equations for the operating frequencies of a single U‐slot microstrip patch antenna are presented based on the surface‐current distribution analysis on a microstrip patch. They are accurate within 5%. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 32: 333–335, 2002.
