This paper presents the characteristics of a new wideband printed microstrip antenna. This antenna is designed to operate in the C‐band, with an impedance bandwidth of about 35% around 5 GHz for a standing‐wave ratio (SWR) less than 2. The antenna consists of a probe‐fed segmented patch. A narrow slit is made in the patch around the feed region. Design parameters and results are presented. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
