Calculation of resonant frequencies of LS higher order modes in a dielectrically loaded grooved waveguide

A simple and efficient variation method is presented in this letter, which is employed to calculate the resonant frequencies of LS higher order modes in a dielectrically loaded grooved waveguide. Emphasis is placed on the calculation of the resonant frequencies of LSE 11 and LSM 11 modes since, certainly the first, and most probably the second will propagate in a practical device.
