The finite‐difference time‐domain method and approximate analytical algorithm are applied for the analysis of junctions of a rectangular T‐septum waveguide and microwave devices on a single‐ridge waveguide. Both approaches demonstrate good agreement at ISM frequencies of 915 MHz and 2.45 GHz when simple junctions of two waveguides with different cross sections are analyzed. Junctions of various waveguides with a capacitance gap may be successfully employed for the design of transitions between such structures and conventional transmission lines. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
