In this letter, we propose a new structure of an aperture coupled T‐shaped microstrip‐fed triangular patch antenna, which has similar radiation pattern properties, with the advantage of being physically smaller than the aperture‐coupled rectangular patch antenna or microstrip slot antenna, and a bandwidth that is greater than the conventional triangle microstrip antenna. The measured bandwidth was 44.5% (VSWR≤2.0). Experimental results for the radiation pattern and the gain are presented. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 31: 262–264, 2001.
