A reconfigurable antenna (RA) with the functions of pattern and polarization adjustment is presented. The reconfigurations can be realized in a continuous frequency band. The proposed antenna consists of a feeding line on the bottom layer, a cross slot on the middle ground layer, and a metasurface (MS) on the top layer. The reconfigurations are achieved by changing the states of PIN diode switches on the MS and the ground plane. In the working band from 5.12 GHz to 5.20 GHz, three kinds of radiation patterns can be generated by the antenna, one of which can switch between left‐handed circular polarization (LHCP) and right‐handed circular polarization (RHCP) along the Z‐axis. The other two patterns, which are at ±20° angles to the Z‐axis, are both linear polarizations. The antenna is fabricated and tested. The simulation and measurement results are found to be in good agreement.
