This article presents a comprehensive investigation of the convergence properties of the method of moments in the modeling of frequency selective surfaces, where the numbers of basis functions and of Floquet modes need to be carefully selected. Both capacitive and inductive frequency selective surfaces are considered, and the use of both entire‐domain and subdomain basis functions is discussed. Different convergence criteria are compared, and general convergence rules are proposed and validated. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE, 2010.
