In this article a suitable combination of design techniques is used to efficiently design low‐cost satellite waveguide filters with rounded corners of large radius because of milling with low tolerances. Three filters have been manufactured using a magnesium body, which is lighter than the aluminium presently used in the space industry. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE, 2008.
