Abstract The two paradigms of Mechanics, videlicet the Kepler Problem and the Simple Harmonic Oscillator, are renowned, each in its own way, for their beautiful mathematical and algebraic properties. We demonstrate that the free particle contains all of these properties and more and recall the relationship of the two paradigms to this most elementary problem of Mechanics.
