In this paper, we consider an initial‐boundary problem for a fourth‐order nonlinear parabolic equations. The problem as a model arises in epitaxial growth of nanoscale thin films. Based on the L p type estimates and Schauder type estimates, we prove the global existence of classical solutions for the problem in two space dimensions. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
