Balanced multiwavelets with optimum time–frequency resolution are discussed in this paper, which are balanced of at least one order and at same time possess the optimum time–frequency resolution. On the basis of lattice structure of causal FIR lossless systems, some balanced with optimum time–frequency resolution are constructed. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
