We shall derive a Rellich‐type‐estimate for solutions in R N of a transmission problem associated with a second order uniformly elliptic differential operator of Helmholtz‐type. The transitional surface is supposed to be unbounded and a characterization of its behaviour at infinity is given. Using this estimate, we can prove a uniqueness theorem for radiation solutions of the transmission problem.
