The intraoral mucosa subserves a multitude of structural and functional roles. This paper details the importance of this within the context of reconstruction. The various methods are reviewed historically. Also, both the experimental and clinical basis for using revascularized jejunum as mucosal reconstruction are presented. © 1994 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
