From 1982 onwards, in Groningen, The Netherlands, we have worked on the experimental evaluation and development of microvascular prostheses in rats and rabbits. In this review article a systematic overview of this experimental work is presented and the results are discussed with regard to the literature to come to a current state of the art on (experimental) microvascular grafting with prosthetic conduits. © 1993 Wiley‐Liss Inc.
