Newly diagnosed dementia patients are at three times the risk for suicide compared to the general geriatric population without the diagnosis, according to researchers who say the findings highlight the importance of suicide risk screening and support at the time of a new dementia diagnosis, particularly for patients under 75. The new research was published in Alzheimer's & Dementia .
