Acknowledging past practices and events in psychiatry that contributed to racial inequality, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) last week issued a formal apology to Blacks, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) for its contribution to structural racism in psychiatry. The apology fittingly occurred on Jan. 18, the national holiday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
