In an effort to address the stigma around mental illness and the rising suicide rates among young people, more and more states are passing legislation and enacting new laws to allow excused absences for students due to mental health or behavioral health reasons. Last year, Oregon and Utah decided to allow for regular sick days if students have mental health issues. And now two more states have joined the fray: Maine and Virginia.
