When a 6‐year‐old Florida girl diagnosed with attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was forced to go to a mental health facility last month under an involuntary state law for “acting out” in her class, and without her mother's consent, it ignited some conversation in the field about the rights of minors and the need for educators to understand the needs of children experiencing trauma.
