Field opposes new guidance allowing states to block grant Medicaid program

In a move to support states with more flexibility to improve the health of their Medicaid populations and within a defined budget, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Jan. 30 the administration's new policy to overhaul the program and convert it to a block grant plan. The mental health community, which opposes the idea, says the move could put millions of people on Medicaid at risk of losing health care access.
