The process of monitoring whether health plans are complying with mental health and substance use parity requirements consists of a patchwork of federal and state oversight practices, leading Congress's Government Accountability Office (GAO) to state in a new report that “the full extent of compliance with [mental health/substance use] parity requirements is not known.”
