Although depression impacts quality of life at all stages, not much is known about depressive symptoms in the year prior to death, according to researchers of a new study who say that patients with depression have worse survival outcomes than nondepressed patients. Consequently, depression becomes a critical issue to screen for and manage in the context of serious illness, they stated.
