The idea that people with significant behavioral health needs are experts in their own lives and should be responsible for determining their own recovery pathways is at the crux of a pilot program in New York state. The program receives funding from the state for goods and services — such as a gym membership, furniture, nutritional counseling and more — needed to support the recovery of people with significant behavioral health needs.
