Attempts to change one's gender identity have been associated with adverse mental health outcomes, according to new research published Sept. 11 in JAMA Psychiatry . Researchers say the study is considered the first to show a correlation between conversion efforts and these outcomes, such as suicide attempts, among transgender adults in the United States.
