A newly released position statement by the Medical Director Institute (MDI) indicates, in part, that effective treatment of mental health and substance use disorders includes services needed to maintain functioning or prevent deterioration. The statement is among the generally accepted standards of care for behavioral health following the ruling earlier this year in Wit v. United Behavioral Health , a class‐action suit brought against the largest behavioral health insurer.
