Indiana University Professor of Psychiatry Alexander Niculescu, M.D., Ph.D., describes his research work over the past 15 years as “a diligent effort to bring psychiatry on par with other medical specialties.” In identifying biomarkers that could inform objective diagnosis and treatment of major mental health conditions, Niculescu hopes to see his work move the mental health field toward a precision medicine approach that has already permeated other health care disciplines (cancer care being among the most prominent).
