Six years ago, 15 behavioral health organizations in New Mexico were upended and services disrupted following a state audit that accused providers of massive Medicaid fraud. The state suspended Medicaid payments to the providers, citing “credible allegations of fraud,” essentially forcing behavioral health organizations considered the largest in the state to curtail services, close operations or leave the state.
