The New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) announced the departure of Wayne Lindstrom, Ph.D. , from his positions as the director of the Behavioral Health Services Division and the CEO of the Behavioral Health Collaborative over the last five years. Among his contributions to the improvement of behavioral health services in New Mexico was the development and implementation of Behavioral Health Investment Zones in Rio Arriba and McKinley counties in 2016, based on the high incidence of deaths attributable to drugs, alcohol and suicide. Mental Health America ranks U.S. states for mental health, and over the last four years New Mexico has progressed from 46th in the nation to 21st. It currently ranks New Mexico overall 31st for adult and youth measures as well as prevalence and access to care measures. Lindstrom was former president and CEO of Mental Health America. His last day with the HSD will be May 3.
