Legislation introduced in previous sessions of Congress that would expand the mental health workforce in the Medicare program and improve mental health access for seniors, particularly in rural populations, has been reintroduced Jan. 31 in the House and Senate. The bill would allow seniors access to licensed mental health counselors (MHCs) and marriage and family therapists (MFTs) under Part B of the Medicare program.
