A little more than a year into its six‐year operation, a mental health Pay for Success (PFS) program designed to deliver publicly funded services to consumers with serious mental illness in Santa Clara County in California is reaping benefits in cost savings by helping its targeted population reduce usage of psychiatric emergency visits and state hospital days. The PFS program, the ninth used in the United States, is the first to work in the mental health arena.
