Senate lawmakers last week voted 99–0 to pass legislation to combat the opioid epidemic. The bill is aimed at establishing or expanding programs that address prevention, treatment and recovery. While the field is elated, some feel that the legislation did not go far enough, particularly in areas of funding, and expanding a demonstration program based on the Excellence in Mental Health Act to expand access to mental health and addiction care in community‐based settings.
