An analysis of national data sets found the numbers of suicides in U.S. hospitals fewer than widely cited estimates, according to a new report by The Joint Commission. The new study represents the first data‐driven estimate of the number of suicides in hospitals and inpatient settings in the United States. The findings are currently published online and will appear in the November issue of the Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety .
