There are efforts to make use of social tags for indexing, organization, and retrieval. In processing and analyzing social tags, it has been a challenge to deal with the long tail of the tag distribution that is in some degree caused by various forms of social tags including compound tags. In this study, compound tags are analyzed to reduce the long tail of the tag distribution and improve the analysis of tags for various purposes. The preliminary results of decomposition and uniformity of compound tags provide potential for improving methods of meaningful application of social tags.
