This study explores the relationship between mobile technologies and economic and social development in four countries, two developed (USA and Kuwait) and two developing countries (Ethiopia and India) using SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis. Mobile technologies are a significant part of ICT investment around the world and they play an increasing role in sectors such as education, agriculture, industry, and health sciences. This investment and development applies not only to the urban environment but also extends to rural areas. This paper discusses the economic and social impact in those sectors and outlines the benefits. The analysis also considers the commitment of the government and industry in influencing “product and process” areas of mobile technologies and the innovative approaches carried out to meet the needs of the market environment.
