NISO (National Information Standards Organization) is developing a protocol for networked reference services. The intent of the protocol is to promote the interoperability of disparate online and networked reference systems. This session will provide an overview of the work of the committee developing the protocol including the motivation for its development, technical details of the protocol itself, and the implications it may have for reference services in the future.
