Peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptors (PPARs) are a class of ligand modulated transcription factors with a prominent role in the regulation of metabolic processes. This report is intended to provide a limited introduction to the PPAR field, sketched with reference to one early series of PPAR ligands. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
