Additive manufacturing (AM) processes are gaining more and more attention due to the interest from all sectors (industries, researchers, and scientists). Selective laser melting (SLM) is one of the AM processes that is widely used because of its ability to process a wide variety of materials. However, by and large, only conventional materials are fabricated using SLM, and there exists a technological gap, where new alloys should be developed suiting the AM processes. This technological gap is briefly reviewed, and possible solutions to bridge the technological gap will be introduced.
