Changes in productivity may be based on relating changes in physical (real) output to changes in physical input(s). Such a system of productivity measures requires the choice of an appropriate index number formula in order to convert changes in money aggregates into physical or real terms. Criteria for the choice between appropriate index number formulae are considered and developed, and an illustration provided.
