The simulations of process design for automotive, aerospace, rigid packaging and other components strongly depend on the material behavior. In the case of forming processes involving plastic deformation, accurate descriptions of the material behavior is possible only with reference to microstructural models based on features such as crystallographic texture, dislocations, precipitates, solutes, etc. In the present paper, the stress‐strain behavior of metals is discussed in view of its relationship with relevant microstrucutural features.
