As a help in establishing conditions developing on an explosively welded metallic interface, an improved and modified liquid analogue system is used. A brief description of the apparatus and operational technique is given. The experimental results are set against the four main hypotheses of explosive welding phenomena and an indication is given of their usefulness in a priori assessments of the likely pattern of behaviour. An outline of possible computer modelling is given.
