Atomic force microscopy is used in this work as a primary tool for investigating chitosan‐based films morphology. Chitosan films casted from chitosan solutions in acetic acid of various concentrations, as well as gold‐ and silver‐containing chitosan films, are studied. Chitosan films are revealed to be composed of globular‐like structures with 20–80 nm lateral sizes. At a higher chitosan concentration, a tendency is observed for these globular‐like structures to be organized in fibril‐like “strands.” The presence of metal does not seem to affect the general structure of chitosan‐based films.
