The present study reports the synthesis of colloidal Cu 2 ZnSnS 4 (CZTS) nano materials (average size ∼9 nm) by a simple and low cost hot‐injection method. The zinc and copper rich CZTS also prepared be the same method. The effect of copper and zinc on the structural, compositional, morphological, and optical properties was studied. Measurements shows that all the prepared samples are comprised of both kesterite and wurtzite CZTS nanocrystals. The absorption spectra indicate that the CZTS nanocrystal has an optical band gap of ca. 2.25 eV which goes to decrease to 1.94 eV for CZ‐Cu and 1.34 eV for CZ‐Zn nanocrystals.
