Summary Anatase titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by sol‐gel method. The phase formation and size of NPs were characterized by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and average diameter of nanoparticles found to be (17 ± 2) nm. Further, TiO 2 ‐ Polystyrene (PS) nanocomposite thin films were prepared by solution casting method with varied content of TiO 2 nanoparticles in PS matrix. The structural and morphological properties of TiO 2 ‐PS nanocomposites were investigated by (XRD) and optical microscopy, respectively. The results revealed that the inhomogeneous dispersion of NPs in PS matrix with varying concentration of NPs and could be tuned by controlling concentration and size of TiO 2 NPs.
