Summary Instantaneous initiation of radical polymerization by applying an intense laser pulse on a monomer‐photoinitiator solution in conjunction with time‐resolved detection of radical concentration provides access to a detailed picture of polymerization kinetics. Examples are given of measurement of chain‐length‐dependent termination, of intramolecular chain transfer as well as of reversible‐deactivation radical polymerization, namely of RAFT and ATRP. The enormous potential of the method relates to the fact that the kinetics of the major acting species, i.e., of the radicals, may be directly monitored with high time resolution.
