Solid‐state alkaline electrolytes were prepared from chloromethylated polysuflone (CMPSf) and a number of mono‐ and diamine compounds for solid alkaline fuel cell (SAFC) applications. Chloromethyl‐groups as substituents for aromatic nuclei were introduced to an aromatic polymer in the presence of a Friedel‐Crafts catalyst and then the basic groups into polymer by amination using N ‐trimethylamine (TMA) and N , N , N ′, N ′‐tetraemethylhexanediamine (TMHDA). The properties of the solid‐state alkaline electrolytes were invetigated in terms of OH – conductivity, water content and thermal stability.
