Abstract Ring opening metathesis is an important class of controlled polymerization techniques. Synthesis of novel polynorbornene derivatives with functional groups designed for application in crosslikable and self assembling materials, and the polymerizations via ROMP and/or free radical polymerization are introduced. Novel monomers and/or macroinitiators for combination of two polymerization techniques are useful for controlling molecular architecture. The sequence of using controlled polymerization techniques affects the molecular structure and the properties of resulting polymers.
