The synthesis of CdS nanoparticles in two different polymer matrices ie. polyacrylamide and polystyrene, is described. In addition, we describe the synthesis of HgS nanoparticles in polyacrylamide. Both the CdS and HgS nanocomposites show blue shifts in the optical spectra in relation to the bulk material. The photoluminescence spectra of both materials show broad emission. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images confirm the nanocrystalline nature of the CdS and HgS nanocomposites.
