We discuss the nematic order parameter and the polymer concentration profile for a solid surface carrying grafted chains. Different regimes are found, depending upon the polymer chain length and the grafting density. These ideas are compared with experimental results obtained with polystyrene in the presence of pentylcyanobiphenyl.
